Public END Cases
May of 2009: Benita Veliz
State: Texas
Benita Veliz was brought to the United States from Mexico in 1993, when she was 8 years old. On January 21, 2009 Benita was handed over to immigration authorities after a police officer pulled her over for allegedly rolling through a stop sign.
Where is she now: Still faces deportation.
June of 2009: Walter Lara
State: Florida
Organizations: SEIU, Students Working for Equal Rights (SWER) & DreamActivist.org
Walter was brought to the United States from Argentina when he was just 3 years old. On February 17, 2009, he was detained by immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while on a ferry. He was arrested and held in a detention center for 20 days. On July 2, 2009 only a few days before he was set to be deported, Walter was granted an extension.
Where is he now: Still faces deportation.
July of 2009: Taha & family
State: New Jersey

Taha was brought to the United States from Bangladesh in November of 1993, when he was only two years old. Taha was set to be deported back to Bangladesh on July 29, 2009, after living in Jersey City for more than 16 years. On July 24 2010, Taha and his family were granted an extension.

August of 2009: Herta Llusho & mother
State: Michigan
Organizations: 1Michigan, SEIU, Citizen Orange & DreamActivist.org
Herta was brought to the United States from Albania in 2001, when she was 11 years old. After years of legal proceedings Herta was set to be deported on August 19, 2009. Herta, along with her mom were granted an extension to remain in the U.S. while their case is reviewed.
Where is she now: Still faces deportation.
September 2009: Alonso Chehade
State: Washington
Alonso Chehade was brought to the United States from Peru in 2001, when he was 14 years old. On March 14, 2009, Alonso was detained by ICE when his friend mistakenly drove into Canada through northern Washington, forcing them to drive back through a port of entry. Originally scheduled to be deported on September 25, 2009, but after fighting his own deportation he was able to gain an extension.
Where is he now: Still faces deportation, active in Washington State.
November of 2009: Gilbert Mejia-Perez and Family
State: California
Organizations: Dream Team Los Angeles (DTLA) & DreamActivist.org
Gilbert Mejia was brought to the United States from Guatemala in 1992, when he was only 1 year old. In 2007 Gilbert’s home was raided by ICE and he and his parents were detained. Gilbert’s parents were deported in October 13, 2009, but he is still fighting to stay in the country.

December of 2009: Andrea Huerfano
State: Florida

Andrea was brought to the United States from Colombia in 2001, when she was 14 years old. On December 8th, 2009 Andrea was detained when she went to pay a traffic ticket in a court in Florida. After a week in detention Andrea was released, she currently advocates for immigrant rights through SWER.

March of 2010: Julio Martinez
State: Kentucky
Organizations: KY Dream Coalition, Immigrant Youth Justice League (IYJL) & DreamActivist.org
Julio was brought to the United States from Honduras on 1999, when he was 7 years old. On March 17th, 2010, Julio was arrested by immigration officials claiming he had missed a court date when he was only 7 years-old. On April 2nd, 2010, Julio was released from detention.

April 2010: Laura, Natalia and Camilo Perez
State: Florida

Laura, Natalia and Camilo were brought to the United States from Colombia in 2000, when they were 15, 13 and 11 years old respectively. On April 6, 2010, the siblings were detained at their home when ICE came knocking at their door. They were eventually released, but are all still in limbo.

June of 2010: Eric Balderas
State: Texas/Massachusetts
Organizations: – Students Immigrant Movement (SIM)
Eric was brought to the United States from Mexico in 1995, when he was 4 years old. On June 7, Eric was detained as as he tried to board an airplane back to Boston after visiting his mother in San Antonio. On June 18, 2010, Eric was granted deferred action for one year.

June of 2010: Yessica Ramirez
State: California

Yessica Ramirez was brought to the United States from Mexico in 1986, when she was 2 years old. A victim of a fraudster attorney, Yessica was ordered deported in 2003. After years of litigation, she was given a final order of deportation, which was set to happen on June 18, 2010, but was later given another extension.

August of 2010: Marlen Moreno
State: Arizona
Organizations: ADAC, America’s Voice, IYJL & DreamActivist.org
Marlen was brought to the United States from Mexico in 1997, when she was 13 years old. In 2008, ICE knocked on her door to detain her. She was eventually released but scheduled to be deported on August 8, 2010. Marlen Moreno was granted an extension August 5, 2010.
Where is she now: Advocating for the DREAM Act from Tucson Arizona.
August of 2010: Ivan Nikolov
State: Michigan

Ivan was brought to the United States from Russia in 2000, when he was 11 years old. Ivan was detained in May 2010, when immigration authorities came knocking on his door because he had missed a court date in 2001, when he was only 12 years old. After several months in detention, Ivan was released on August 23, 2010.
Where is he now: Still faces deportation, an active member of 1Michigan.
October of 2010: Araceli Torres-Ruiz
State: Arizona
Organization: No More Deaths
Araceli was brought to the United States from Mexico in 1990, when she was 7 years old. On March 18, 2008, an immigration raid at her job led to her being detained for 5 months and in deportation proceedings.
Where is she now: Still in deportation proceedings.
November of 2010: Steve Li
State: California
Organizations: Asian Law Caucus - ASPIRE
Steve was brought to the US from Peru in 2002, when he was 2 years old. On September 15, 2010, ICE showed up at his home and detained him. After being detained for a month, Senator Dianne Feinstein introduced a private bill, which temporarily has deferred his deportation.

December of 2010: Bernard Pastor
State: Ohio
Organizations: Ohio Action Circle & America’s Voice
Bernard Pastor was brought to the US in 1995 from Guatemala at the age of 3 when his family fled religious and military persecution. On November 17, 2010 was handed over to ICE by Springdale, OH police after a minor auto accident. After a month in detention, Bernard was released by ICE authorities.
Where is he now: Still faces Deportation.
January 2011: Pedro Gutierrez
State: Arizona
Organizations: ADAC, America’s Voice, IYJL & DreamActivist.org
Pedro Gutierrez was brought to the United States from Mexico in 1995, when he was 7 years old by his grandmother, who passed away when he was a teenager. On January 18, 2010 Pedro reported to ICE offices in Phoenix for a hearing to decide whether he would be deported. On that same day, ICE authorities granted Pedro a 30 day window while they review his case.
